Description: This first edition is a true pocket-sized Spanish-English translation guide. It is
paperback, but would have been better with a spiral binding.
Purpose: The author states this guide: 1) is a vital communication tool for anyone working with
Spanish-speaking patients; 2) is clearly organized by situation (interview, examination, course of
visit); 3) is a bilingual dictionary containing Spanish medical terminology specific to Mexico,
Puerto Rico, Cuba, and other countries; 4) provides hundreds of essential words and phrases,
ready to use; and 5) is for residents and all other medical professionals. I agree that these
things are true about this book.
Audience: While the author mentions an audience of residents and other medical professionals,
I would also include admission clerks, clergy in medical settings, and anyone trying to
communicate to ill spanish speaking persons.
Features: "The first part of Medical Spanish Pocket provides an overview of the Spanish language,
i.e. pronunciation, common words and common phrases, as well as basics of medical terminology.
The second part is organized by situation. It starts with the interview, examination and the
course of an office visit. It then covers specific questions and phrases for each medical
specialty. The third and fourth parts. . . are ready-to-use dictionaries of medical terminology,
the first one English to Spanish, the second one vice versa." This Medical Spanish guide is
also available as software for Palm OS. More information may be obtained at www.media4u.com.
Assessment: Size is the advantage of this publication. While it is small, it is complete for
most uses. I like the introduction to pronunciation and other basics to sentence structure.
Finding the right word is quick and easy and the price is right - a great combination.

Customer Reviews:
You can actually learn some Spanish from this pocketbook unlike most other books of its kind
which only translate minimal amount of words. If you are planning to buy a dictionary/pocketbook
of this kind I strongly recommend this pocketbook for all healthcare workers.

Quite simply this is the best pocketbook on the market in this category. Superb! Contains a vast
amount of useful information for all medical and healthcare staff/workers. It is of superb
design. Even the font used is one of a kind (easy to read). I do not agree with the reviewer
from Doody that it should be of spiral format as this would make it uncomfortable to handle,
especially when placing in shirt pocket or lab coat pocket.
