Description: This book, which conveniently fits into one's palm, is a concise collection of cases involving the most common ECG findings.
Purpose: The book reviews common problems encountered in the wards, emergency room, or outpatient setting. It is designed to enable clinicians to quickly and accurately recognize ECG morphologies. The author does a wonderful job of meeting these objectives.
Audience: This pocket book is intended for medical students, interns, residents, and other trainees and does an excellent job addressing this audience.
Features: Unique features include the concise presentation of the material and the small size of the book. The author has also correlated the official ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine) ECG diagnoses, a feature which is very helpful for trainees preparing for certifying examinations. A special section of the table of contents is an index of the various conditions as coded by the ABIM certifying exam and the cases that contain the abnormalities. Subtle or unusual ECG findings are not presented, but they are not the focus of this book.
Assessment: The concise size makes this a good beginning ECG reference guide for nurses, students, and other healthcare workers. Sixty commonly encountered ECG morphologies are presented. Each case is accompanied by a brief history and physical, detailed explanation of the ECG findings, and appropriate treatment discussion.
