Most PDAs work on either a Windows-based or a Palm operating system, they can be screen-based or keyboard-based, or both. The basic features of any PDA are a calendar, address book, task list, and memo pad. More sophisticated PDAs can run word processing, spreadsheet, money manager, games and electronic book reading programs and also provide e-mail and Internet access. Some PDAs even play stereo quality music and record voice memos. PDAs offerings are steadily expanding.

This problem is related to the Internet Explorer cache management. When you click in the Internet Explorer web browser to download the file from your user account, choose when prompted the option to 'Save to disk' rather than 'Open directly' in the web browser. Select a folder on your local disk, where you will find the file after download. To sync to your PDA, you then have to double-click on the .prc file, and perform a synchronisation.

The PID or Personal ID identifies an eBook reading device - PDA or PC - and you will find it displayed in the About box of the Mobipocket Reader application. You are required to enter this information in your user account before you purchase an eBook for the first time.
Top of Page Top of Page | Home

4.11 I get the message 'Wrong Personal ID' when I open an eBook on my device. What's wrong?
You are getting this error message because the PID of your device does not match the one that is registered in your Mobipocket user account. If you purchased your eBooks on Mobipocket.com, you can update your PID(s) on-line in your Mobipocket account.
Top of Page Top of Page | Home

www.mobipocket.com/.... Then log on to your Mobipocket account: www.mobipocket.com/en/MyMobi/mymobipocket.asp.
Click on "Update my account information", and fill in the PID of your new device. After validation, redownload your eBooks to your computer and double-click on the .prc files to sync to your new PDA or read on your new PC.

Top of Page Top of Page | Home

4.19 How do I delete an eBook from my PDA?

Top of Page Top of Page | Home

    4.20 Why can't I read some PRC/PDB files ?
There is a very wide variety of .pdb file formats: iSilo, Teal, etc... and there is only one standard format which is the AportisDoc format: you will find those at www.memoware.com for example. The Mobipocket Reader reads only the standard DOC type of .pdb files, and they are downloaded in the same way as other files. Other types of .pdb files will not appear in the Library of the application.
Top of Page Top of Page | Home

4.21 My Reader displays: Application mobibook.exe has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor. Program: mobibook.exe / Exception: 0x80000002 / Address:000334b0
Check whether you installed the Pocket PC or the Windows CE 2.x 3.0 version of the Mobipocket Reader. Installing the Windows CE version on a PocketPC device, or visa versa can cause these problems. You can reinstall the Reader from this page:www.mobipocket.com/...
Top of Page Top of Page | Home

4.22 When I download an e-book it comes as a .prc file for Palm. How can I read it on my PDA, which is not a Palm?
Mobipocket eBook files have a .prc extension, which is indeed a Palm file extension, but the Mobipocket Reader for each of the PDA platforms can read these .prc files. Synchronize the .prc file to your PDA by double-clicking on it, and once the synchronisation is complete the title will appear in the Library of the Mobipocket Reader application.
